Data Transfer Methods

Agricultural Electronics Corporation Home Page

The Phytogram™ data collected and recorded by the POD in the field from the petiole, berry, and drip line sensors can be transferred for analysis by cellular telephone, radio, or direct connection as described below.

DATA TRANSFER METHODS
Communication Method Description

Agricultural Electronics Corporation to the Cellular Telephone in POD This is the most common method used under service contracts. AEC initiates the data transfer once a day. AEC Equipment can accommodate CDMA and IDEN cellular technology (used by Verizon and Nextel).

User Land line telephone to Cellular telephone in POD A central facility telephone land line communicates with the cellular telephone in the POD in the field. This is the method used under equipment purchase contracts unless radio facilities are required.

Land line telephone to Relay/Server A central facility telephone land line communicates with the cellular telephone in a Relay/Server located in the field which in turn communicates (via a resident radio) with the POD (or PODs) in the field. Line of sight radio link between the Relay/Server and the PODs is three to five kilometers depending on the circumstances.

Radio Transmission A central facility radio communicates with a radio in the POD in the field. Line of sight radio link between the central facility radio and the POD is three to five kilometers depending on the circumstances.

In-field Transfer An operator takes a laptop computer to the field and connects it to the POD. Transfer is by means of PROCOMM, HYPERTERMINAL, or a similar communications program.
